This series is a masterpiece, and why Japanese food culture is superior. The messages in this anime are so ahead of it's time, and it's popularity with the Japanese may be one of the reasons along with shows like Iron Chef that the Japanese developed into the one of the supreme food cultures of the world.
This episode brought tears to my own eyes, thinking back on some of my own mother's cooking and how certain tastes become the baseline for what one finds enjoyable in food.
